A question can be described as a sentence which asks for a response or answer. On a regular basis you are able to receive questions. Certain questions are open ended requiring explanation, elaboration and many more. Other questions are closed and only require one answer: Yes or No. In some instances others ask questions that do not necessarily need a response but simply for someone to take note of (rhetoric types of questions). According to the structure of the issue, your answer that follows must address what they are looking for in the first place. A lot of students fail exams not because they're dull but rather because they fail be aware of the information being demanded of them. The inability to express the question correctly leads to an ineffective action or response. After an excellent presentation, be happy when people ask you questions. It could be a sign that people were engaged in what you were presenting and that your presentation was arousing for others. How you answer those questions will improve the perception your audience has of you or boost their confidence about your product or service. As a professional you will need learn what it takes to be able to answer pertinent questions , but more importantly, how to respond effectively.

Before you start answering your question, ensure you're in the clearest of your mind what the question is about. It is not a bad idea to start by trying to understand what's being asked. Try asking politely "I apologize, I'm not sure I understand what you are asking If you could rephrase the question, what would you suggest?" You'll have a better chance of communicating when you do this instead of speaking in the same voice with no sense of clarity and understanding. Be aware that the main purpose of answering questions is for you to make a positive contribution to the one who is seeking answers. Don't waste your time. Seek understanding first.

Another way to boost your chances of responding to your question in an accurate and objective way is to ensure that you allow the person who asked the question time to finish asking. A few people take time in describing precisely what want to convey. If you answer a question before it is properly asked might seem disrespectful. Do not presume that you know where the question is headed, and you would like to assist the person with the right answer. If you're not pressed for time give the person time to "ramble" while you record key things. It will also allow you time to formulate and come up with your best solution to the question. The ability to listen will give you a higher chance of success in the answer to questions.

You need to decide if you're qualified to answer that question or someone else is. Have you been authorized by the company to speak about the subject (journalists may be in a position to sway you, even when you're not supposed to be a company spokesperson)? How deep should the answer be? In the meantime, pauses and periods of silence show that you are not just creating whatever material is in your mind but a clearly reasoned out answer is on its way. You can help the person waiting for to answer you by saying "Let me think ..., Let me think." ..". This way, the person will not sit there and think the person hasn't heard anything it, or that you're not paying attention, etc. The process of thinking through can help you to come up with statements that you'll feel good on later. You will be able to determine the best way to answer with wisdom without leaving wounded or new wounds.
