One way that can enhance your ability to answer questions in a meaningful and objective way is to ensure that you give the person who is asking the question time to finish asking. Some people like to describe precisely what they are seeking. A response to a question that is not given until it is asked in full may appear as if you're being disrespectful. Do not presume that you know exactly where the person is asking you, hence you want to help the person to understand the question. If you're short on time, let the person "ramble" while you take note of key aspects. Also, it gives you time to think through and formulate the best answer to the question. The ability to listen will give you a higher chance of success in answering the questions.

You have to determine if you're qualified to answer that question or someone else is. Does your license permit you to speak regarding this issue (journalists can be very threatening even if you're legally required to be the spokesperson of the company)? How deep should the answer be? Moments of silence and pauses prove that you're just making up whatever material you have in your mind but a clearly thought out solution is coming. You can actually prepare the person expecting an answer by asking "Let me think ..., Let me look around." ..". This way the person is stop waiting around, thinking they haven't heard the answer, and instead you're simply ignoring your own thoughts. This helps to think of statements that you'll never regret for later. You can figure out the best method of answering with wisdom without leaving bruises or fresh wounds.
