A question is a question which asks for a response or answer. Everyday, you can ask to be asked questions. Some questions are open-ended necessitating explanations, explanations and the like, while others need only either a "Yes" or "No. In certain situations, others pose questions that do not necessarily have to be answered, but just for someone else to listen (rhetoric inquiries). In the case that the questions are asked, your answer that follows should address what the question is looking for. Many students fail their tests not because they're boring but because they fail to understand the questions being asked of them. Failure to articulate the question properly leads to an incorrect action or response. After your presentation, be pleased when people have questions. It may be a sign that people were engaged in this presentation and also that the presentation sparked interest in other people. What you do to answer these questions will increase the view of your audience of you , or increase their confidence in your products or service. As a professional you will be required to master questions and ask pertinent questions . But most importantly, you need to know how to answer them efficiently.

Before you begin to answer an inquiry, ensure that you're in a state of mind about what the question is about. There's no harm in having a clear understanding of what is being asked. Try asking politely "I am sorry, I'm not sure I understand what you are asking and would you be willing to rephrase it?" You'll be more effective in such situations than simply blabbing away with no clarification or understanding. The purpose behind answering questions is for you to make a positive contribution to the person trying to find an answer. Don't be a waste of time. Seek understanding first.

A way to increase your effectiveness in answering a question in a relevant and objective way is to ensure that you give the person asking the question time before asking. Some people take their time to elaborate on what they want to convey. Responding to a question after it is answered fully could appear an act of disrespect. Do not presume that you know the direction that the question is taking, therefore you should assist the person to clarify the issue. If you're able allow the person to "ramble" while taking note of important elements. It allows you to synthesize and think of the best answer to the question. The ability to listen provides you a high percentage of success for answering questions.

You have to determine if you are qualified to answer the question , or if someone else is. Is it your right to speak about this topic (journalists can haunt you even if you are not expected to be the company spokesperson)? What should the response be? Pauses and moments of silence show that you are not simply producing any unstructured substance you've got in your mind but a clearly reasoned out answer is on its way. You can prepare the person in the audience for an answer by using the phrase "Let me think about it ..., Let me take a look." ..". This way, the person will not sit idle thinking there is nothing you've heard, you are simply ignoring etc. Think through your thoughts and you'll be able in coming up with suggestions which you'll not regret on later. You will be able to determine the best option to speak with confidence without leaving the person with scars or fresh wounds.
