One way to improve your ability to answer the question in a meaningful and objective manner is when you allow the person who asked the question the time to finish asking. Some people may take their time to elaborate on what they are looking for. If you answer a question before it is answered fully could appear rude. Do not presume that you know what direction the questions are taking and therefore want to help the person find the answer. If you're on time leave the person "ramble" while you take note of the most important aspects. Also, it gives you time to think about and synthesize one of the most suitable answers to the question. Listening skills give you a high rate of success with regards to your answers to questions.

It is up to you to determine if you're qualified to answer the question or if someone else has the. Have you been authorized by the company to speak on this topic (journalists can make you look bad even if you are not supposed to be to the company's spokesperson)? How deep should the answer be? In the meantime, pauses and periods of silence will show that you're just making up whatever material you can think of in your mind, but a planned answer is expected. This will help the person not have to sit in silence thinking they haven't heard, you are simply ignoring, etc. This helps to think of statements that you will not regret on later. You will know the best approach to address the issue with wisdom without leaving injuries or wounds that are not healed.
